1815 - 2015 : 200ème Anniversaire de la visite du prêtre catholique François MATIGNON venu rencontrer les Canadiens-Français émigrés au Vermont. La région du Lac Champlain attire en effet les Canadiens-Français, le réseau de transport liant les axes Lac Richelieu, Lac Champlain puis fleuve Hudson est en effet très aisé. Les jeunes sont particulièrement attirés par le travail saisonnier qu'offre l'agriculture et les nombreuses briqueries.

Le Père François MATIGNON est né à Paris en 1753. Après ses études à la Sorbonne, il est ordonné prêtre. Fuyant les persécutions anti-cléricales de la Révolution Française, il rejoint en 1792 le Nouveau Monde et Boston où il officiera avec son ami John CHEVERUS futur évêque de Boston, jusqu'à sa mort en 1818.

La première paroisse de Burlington, mais aussi de toute la Nouvelle Angleterre, de langue française est créée en 1850 par le Père Joseph QUEVILLON : Saint Joseph de Burlington.

1815 : A Catholic priest from Boston visits Burlington. Father Francis MATIGNON encounters French-Canadians who have emigrated to Vermont. The Lake Champlain region entices French-Canadians connected with the transportation network along the Richelieu-Lake Champlain Hudson axis. Others, primarily youths, are attracted to Vermont by the seasonal demands of agriculture and brickyards.

Father Francis MATIGNON was born in Paris in 1753 ; educated at the Sorbonne, ordained a priest and served in pre-revoltionary France ; fled to America in 1792 during the height of revolutionary anti-clericalism. Co-worker with his friend John CHEVERUS among Boston's fledging catholic community before his death in 1818.

1850 : Father Joseph QUEVILLON, a priest from the Joliette Region (Quebec) establishes the first French-speaking Roman Catholic parish in New England : St Joseph of Burlington.
